10 people burnt alive, 23 people arrested in Birbhum's violence; West Bengal

Since Monday night, at least 23 people have been arrested in connection with the violence in West Bengal's Birbhum district, which has claimed the lives of 10 people, including a Trinamool Congress panchayat leader.

While one person has been arrested in connection with the bombing that killed Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy chief of the Barshal gramme panchayat, at least 22 others have been arrested in connection with the deaths of eight people in the same village after their homes were set on fire after Sheikh's murder.

Officials stated on Tuesday that at least ten people were killed and numerous more were injured in violence that erupted after the death of deputy Panchayat Pradhan in Baguti village in West Bengal's Birbhum district.

Meanwhile, both the police and the ruling Trinamool Congress have denied that the incident was motivated by political purposes.

To investigate the Baguti incident, the state government organised a special investigative team led by ADG, CID, Gyanwant Singh, DIG, Western Range, Sanjay Singh, and DIG, CID, Operations, Miraj Khalid.

I've asked the Chief Secretary for an urgent update on the situation. In a tweet, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his condolences to the dead families.

Six of the ten people killed were women, and two were children, according to local officials.

"A family of seven was killed. At the hospital, another person died. We haven't been able to determine whether the incident was motivated by politics. Personal animosity could be the root of the problem. The SIT was created to investigate if villagers set fire to houses following the murder (of Trinamool panchayat office-bearer Badu Sheikh)," Malviya said, but conceded that the arson was perpetrated within an hour of the Trinamool panchayat office-death. bearer's

"At this time, we cannot confirm whether the fire is linked to the murder of the Trinamool leader," said Birbhum Superintendent of Police Nagendranath Tripathi.
