"Major Expansion for NEIGRIHMS: 50 New MBBS Seats Announced by Union Health Minister"

Bharati Pravin Pawar, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, has announced an upcoming increase in the number of MBBS seats at NEIGRIHMS (North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences). Starting next year, an additional 50 MBBS seats will be added, resulting in an annual intake of 100 seats.
During a press briefing, Pawar highlighted that NEIGRIHMS has been receiving supplementary funding since 2015 to enhance the medical college's facilities, augment the MBBS seat count, and bolster the nursing college.
Pawar noted, "We allocate funds each year for various aspects of NEIGRIHMS' enhancement. The previous year's budget was Rs 480 crore, and this year, it has been increased to Rs 528 crore."
She commended NEIGRIHMS' strides in fortifying essential amenities, particularly mentioning the advancements in the radiotherapy treatment unit. Furthermore, Pawar emphasized the consistent commitment of the central government to fortify the institute.
The development of a Regional Cancer Centre within NEIGRIHMS was also disclosed by Pawar. This center's primary objective is to provide specialized care to patients grappling with cancer.
As part of her official visit, Pawar conducted an extensive inspection of NEIGRIHMS and engaged in a comprehensive review meeting with the institution's officials and staff.
