A 22-year-old mom was charged with aggravated manslaughter after she left her infant to drowned

A mother of a 7-month-old infant has been arrested in the death of her son who drowned in the bathtub while she was left the child unattended to do her nails, in Florida.

A young Florida mom identified as Alyssa Carolyn Jimmie, 22 was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child under 18 for the accidental drowning death of her infant on May 20.

The incident occurred when Jimmie was filling the bathtub with water for her seven-month-old son and three-year-old son the brother of the deceased baby, in her Miami-Dade home when she left the bathroom to her home garage to do her nails.

The investigators have been told, that she felt safe leaving the kids in the tub unattended because there was no drain plug and water could flow freely down the drain. The garage, which is an at-home manicure station, is about 62 feet away from the bathtub, according to police.

Jimmie further said to the investigators that When she returned to the bathroom around five to 10 minutes later, the tub was filled with water and her infant child was unconscious. The drain has been clogged with a small face towel, and then she began attempting CPR on the child she said. And she run to a neighbor’s house to help her call 911, according to her, her phone was not working at the time.

The boy was rushed to the regional hospital, where medical staff was able to restart his heartbeat, however, he was pronounced brain dead and died three days later.

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner specified that the baby died from accidental drowning.

Jimmie was out on bond at $10,000 by the Miami Dade Circuit Court Judge as giving advised her, “It is a very sad set of events. I’m sorry for your loss,” Judge Mindy Glazer told the mother. “Make sure you stay in touch with your attorney and listen to what they tell you.”
