Yellow alert issued after Bengaluru floods after overnight rain: wettest year in history

Since Wednesday night, the city has once again been hammered by heavy rain, which has caused serious street flooding, damage to vehicles and property, disruptions to daily routines, and traffic jams. Online videos of two-wheelers being washed away and floating possessions have gone viral.

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier this week indicated that Bengaluru beat the record for the wettest year in history by recording 1,704 mm of precipitation this year.

Over the areas covered by the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) limits on Thursday, the Karnataka State Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has predicted "widespread moderate showers with isolated heavy rains associated with thunderstorms and lightning." Most of the city was depicted in green on the predicted map, suggesting moderate rainfall, while certain sections in the RR Nagar, Bommanahalli, and south zones were depicted in blue, signifying significant rainfall.
