After a huge slip in Passport Rank, India is slowly climbing the steps
After a massive drop in ranking in 2021, India's passport power is slowly improving. In comparison to 2021, it has improved this quarter. It is now ranked 83rd in the Henley Passport Index, up to seven places from the previous year's ranking of 90th. However, India was ranked 84th in 2020, while it was placed 85th in 2016, alongside Mali and Uzbekistan. The index is topped by Japan and Singapore.
The current rankings are for the first quarter of 2022,
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at a conference titled Delivering Democracy: Reviewing Narendra Modi's Two Decades as Prime Minister on Wednesday that "Narendra Modi has increased the worth of India's passport, which is an honour for the country,"
However, according to the Henley Passport Index 2021, a report by Henley & Partners, a London-based worldwide citizenship and residence advice organization, the country's ranking dropped eight places from 82 in 2020 to 90 in 2021.
