"All local languages are national language" says Union Minister Pradhan at NEHU Shillong

Under the new National Education Policy, which was formulated to give importance to all local languages in the country, all local languages in the country are considered national languages, according to Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister.

"Local languages, whether Hindi or English, are just as essential as any other language spoken in this country. This is the NEP's most notable characteristic "At North East Hill University's (NEHU) 27th convocation, Pradhan remarked.

The NEP was designed to prioritize all regional languages. "Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new policy, all languages are national languages, including Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia (local languages in Meghalaya)," he explained.

He said that Meghalaya had 15 lakh young people, with roughly 40% of the state's 3.5 million inhabitants under the age of 25. "This is the time for students," he added, adding that "NEP emphasized youths."

A neo-Industrial Revolution is underway, according to the union minister, and "knowledge-based revolution and universities are part of this new revolution of the world and of the country." At the University's entrance, Pradhan was confronted by pro-Inner Line Permit demonstrators who chanted slogans. He exited from his vehicle, patiently listened to the protesters, and promised to deliver their message to Delhi.

"New generation politicians can learn from Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ji's humility and sincerity. Rather than fleeing the agitated masses, he got down and listened to them "In his convocation speech, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma applauded Pradhan.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the graduates and thanked the Union Minister for exempting Meghalaya from the CUET. He also emphasized the need of remembering the bigger picture and purpose in life, as well as taking measured risks to get to the next level. He advised the pupils not to be discouraged by failure and not to get carried away by success.

Pradhan went to Umsning Presbyterian School later the day. He stated that the aims and aspirations of future leaders from this school in the Ri Bhoi region of Meghalaya would reaffirm the confidence that India will become a knowledge society.
