Assam: Nearly 70 employees summoned for possessing fake PhD Degrees
At least 70 people who are employed as tutors, administrators, instructors, and librarians in Assam have been summoned due to allegations that some of them possess fake PhDs. According to sources, a screening committee has been established in this regard, and Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, the previous vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University, has been named as its chairman. The people who have been requested to appear before the directorate on July 19 have been employed by various government-aided colleges for a certain salary.
It's noteworthy that state-created committees at the district level have advocated for improvements to the services provided by their regular posts. "Most of them who have been called to come for document verification are employed as tutors," says the statement. The director of higher education, Dharmakanta Mili, was quoted by TOI as adding that if their PhDs are confirmed to be valid, those teachers, who are currently employed at a fixed salary, will overcome the obstacles to obtaining assistant professor positions.
