Assam Cricket Association is rain-ready for India-South Africa T20
For the T20 International between India and South Africa on October 2, the Assam Cricket Association has made thorough preparations to minimise time-loss in the case of rain, including importing pitch covers, a top official said. In January 2020, India and Sri Lanka's final cricket match at this location's Barsapara Stadium was called off due to heavy rain. The match in 2020 had to be eventually cancelled since Guwahati had had unusually heavy rain in the middle of winter.
"Although there is a clear weather forecast for October 2, nobody can control the weather. In case of rain on October 2, we have everything planned "Devajit Saikia, the ACA secretary, told PTI. According to him, the ACA has brought two "very lightweight" pitch covers from the US. It currently has access to about 20 covers. According to Saikia, "These imported covers make sure that water or moisture does not penetrate into the pitch."
He stated that the BCCI chief curator's staff now has control over the entire field, including the pitch, after receiving the ground on September 16. Saikia stated that a sold-out crowd is anticipated for the India-South Africa match, with the initial online ticket sales receiving favourable feedback. "The initial supply of internet tickets has already been consumed. A new batch will be released on September 26 " he said.
According to the ACA official, the stadium can hold 39,000 people, of which 8,000 seats are set aside as free passes for various agencies, state entities, sponsors, and other invitees. Saikia added that because the match is scheduled between Gandhi Jayanti and Durga Puja, further crowd control measures are being considered. "ACA has already held three rounds of discussions with the district administration, police, and other agencies," the official said. "A traffic plan is being drawn out to ensure least inconvenience to the people.
