However, in a startling revelation Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that ministers legislators businessmen, and even common people in the State have received extortion demands and that comprehensive investigation in this regard was on to end this racket. On Thursday Leader of Opposition and former chief minister, Mukul Sangma of the Congress had revealed that many ministers and legislators had been served with demand notes and had slammed the state government for its alleged insensitivity regarding the issue.

This has led to us as a government and more importantly the police department doing a large amount of investigation. Large amounts of evidence documentation and proof many kinds of proof investigation are being done in a lot of detail. Stating that ministers and legislators also have received extortion demands Conrad said investigation on the numbers through which they had received this and other inputs from them have already been collected.

While reacting to the role of opposition regarding the recent situation Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said during his entire political carrier he did not come across such a level of desperation among the opposition.

Sangma said that the desperation level has gone to such an extent that personal attacks were being made, angry words were being used which he did not expect from senior people and people of that stature. It is quite sad to see the extreme sense of desperation that is prevailing right now in the leadership in the Congress in the state, he added.

He further asserted that he was amused when some Congress MLAs called upon him and almost apologized stating that they were ashamed of the behavior of their leadership. He said that this indicates the internal scenario of the congress but refused to comment further.

"It requires everybody to work together and as a CM I would like to urge the oppositions, urge the political leaders and urge society as a whole that we must rise above all the political games:"

Without taking any name he further said, they are playing political games but not succeeding but at some point in time, one must have the commitment towards people and the issues and must work together to overcome them.
