The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made its first arrest in the recent killings of eight individuals in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Thursday.
These were the first arrests made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation into the March 21 killings in Bogtui village.
Soon after the deaths, the four suspects escaped Bogtui for Mumbai, where they were caught early Thursday morning.
“The FIR filed in connection with the deaths listed two of the four arrested suspects: Bappa and Shabu Sheikh. We’ll take them to a Mumbai court and request a transit remand to West Bengal,” he said.
After gunmen firebombed many houses in the area hours after the murder of local TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh, eight persons were burned alive and one later died of injuries.
