Celebration of IIT Roorkee's 175th Foundation Day
IIT Roorkee marked its 175th Foundation Day on Friday, November 25, 2022, by developing a picture gallery of large-scale oil paintings of the 5 luminaries who graduated from the Institute prior to 1900 and emphasising the antiquity of the Institute's storied past.
On Friday, November 25, 2022, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee observed its 175th Foundation Day. The Institute commemorated the occasion by showcasing the lengthy and renowned history of IIT Roorkee and by publishing a commemorative stamp, coin, and coffee table book.
According to a press release, Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Department of Post, GoI, attended the Foundation Day celebration in addition to Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, who served as the event's chief guest.
The event started with the raising of the flag, a speech on the historical aspects of the foundation day by Prof. B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, chairman of the board of governors at IIT Roorkee, and Prof. K.K. Pant, director of IIT Roorkee, and then the release of stamps and coins that highlighted the history.
Since last year, the Institute had been commemorating its 175th Foundation Day. Numerous events on the academic, international relations, sports, research, alumni, and student outreach fronts were also part of the year-long celebration.
According to the press release, the Institute's IITR@ 175 initiative reached out to universities within 200 kilometres of Roorkee for collaboration, assistance in establishing labs and funding from various governmental and non-governmental organizations. In April 2022, the TechSarthi Scheme was introduced to help the industrial facilities near Roorkee. Athletes from the Institute, BEG, NIH, CBRI, and a few other educational Institutes in the Roorkee area participated in the Half Marathon 2022, which was organised by the Institute Sports Council of IIT Roorkee on April 3, 2022.
