Chandra Mohan Patowary Meets Meghalaya Counterpart in Shillong to Resolve Border Issues

The meeting narrowed down contested areas, planning an on-site visit in September to gather stakeholder insights for comprehensive resolutions.
Guwahati witnessed a joint meeting of regional committees from Assam and Meghalaya on Monday, aimed at seeking a harmonious resolution to the border disputes existing between the two neighboring states. Led by Chandra Mohan Patowary, the Minister of Environment & Forest and Guardian Minister of Kamrup, and Paul Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister of Meghalaya and Chairman of the regional committee for West Khasi Hills. The meeting was focused on finding lasting solutions for border concerns, particularly at Langpih in Kamrup District, adjoining West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.
During the productive meeting, both committees delineated their intention to address the lingering border issues. The contested areas were effectively narrowed down, paving the way for the regional committee members to conduct an on-site inspection in the designated regions towards the end of September. This visit, scheduled post the Assembly sessions in both states, aims to gather insights from all stakeholders, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive settlement. With determination, the officials expressed their optimism in achieving permanent resolutions for these boundary matters.
