Conrad denies Mukul's claim of a nexus with the drug cartel
Mukul Sangma, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) parliamentary party, made a serious allegation in the Assembly on Tuesday, claiming that Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is a close friend of a suspected drug lord from Mizoram and that the Chief Minister's Office arranged for his entrance into a high-profile event in New Delhi.
Conrad disproved the claim. He claimed that basing a decision just on the appearance of two people in a photograph together is absurd.
Mukul made the accusation while participating in a motion on the state's drug and substance misuse problem that was proposed by Ardent Basaiawmoit of the VPP.
The TMC veteran expressed his opinions by stating that "everyone has to be under the scanner," especially the officers who are expected to handle this extremely difficult assignment and stop the trend of narcotics being so readily available.
As a politician, he remarked, "We also have to be careful about the people we meet, people who travel with us, and people who come to join us in our parties, because they might take advantage of their association with us."
Mukul pointed to a picture of the trio sitting together and stated, "This is the picture of the Chief Minister, his wife, and Henry in one of the most high-profile programs in Delhi.
He claimed that he had tried to learn how Henry had gotten a seat at such a prominent occasion and added, "I was informed that his sitting arrangement was requested by the Chief Minister's Office."
Therefore, I'm attempting to convey that we should be very selective about the people we associate with. If they are not traveling with us, they will be able to enter the same convoy (Z plus category) and similar events, he continued.
The CM defended his stance by claiming that House members are public characters who frequently interact with millions of people and take selfies with them. The most irrational conclusion somebody can get, in his opinion, is connecting two distinct actions and then drawing a conclusion from a photograph.
"It must be supported by proof of the activities that were occurring. After the Assembly meeting, Conrad told reporters, "I have no idea what these activities were.
