Covid-19: First death in Assam after several months; Covid positivity rate surpasses 10%

On July 7, the number of Covid-19 cases in the state of Assam reached their highest level in around five months, and 273 persons had just become infected. On July 7, another Covid-related fatality was reported in the state; this one, a long time after the last, was caused by Covid. The number of cases in the state has increased and is now at 7,25,950, with the surge in Covid-19 instances beginning in mid-June.

The positive rate has also increased and is currently sitting above 10.38 percent. The Kamrup Metropolitan district, which is mostly comprised of Guwahati city, reported the greatest number of new infections—100—among the 273 fresh cases documented in the state on July 7. At this time, there are 1138 active cases in the state as a whole. Dr. Abhijit Sarma, the superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), meantime, asked the populace on July 5 to adhere to all Covid-19 norms and not break them.
