On Thursday morning, Cyclone Mandous was formed in the Bay of Bengal. As the deep depression over the southwest and adjacent southeast of the Bay of Bengal expanded into the cyclonic storm Mandous, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued an alert for the north and south coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh.

"A 500 km ESE of Karaikal, CS Mandous was over SW BoB. With a wind speed of 70 kmph, to move WNW and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the nearby south AP coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota around midnight on December 9th "IMD stated.

With a maximum sustained wind speed of 70 kmph gusting to in kmph around the early hours of December 10, the IMD had predicted that the storm would continue to move west-northwestward and cross north Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and the adjacent south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota.
