Dead toll rises to nine in Bikaner-Guwahati train accident; Technical issue may be the reason behind
On Friday, the fatality toll from the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailment near New Domohani station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district climbed to nine.
Maumita Godara, the District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri district, reported nine people had died. There are six males and three females among the dead. 36 people are being treated in three different State Health Centers in north Bengal, according to the government.
According to preliminary information, "approximately 12 coaches derailed, of which two capsized," according to a press release from the N. F. Railway. At the time of the derailment, there were approximately 1053 passengers on board the train.
Ex-gratia payments of 5 lakhs to the deceased, 1 lakh to the grievously injured, and 25,000 to passengers with minor injuries have been declared by the railway. The passengers were taken from the accident site by Friday morning, and operations are underway to clear the tracks.
On Thursday around 17.00 hours, near New Domohani station in the Alipurduar section of the N.F. Railway, the Bikaner – Guwahati Express was involved in an accident. New Jalpaiguri station was 42 kilometers away, and New Alipurduar station was 100 kilometers away.
The accident site was inspected by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the day. According to the Minister, preliminary investigations have revealed that the locomotive had a technical problem.
"A technical defect appears to exist in various areas of the locomotive." The Minister stated, "We'll have to disassemble it and analyze it." He further mentioned that the accident has been subjected to an investigation by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
However, before any trains left from the destination, any mechanical issues should have been checked. The general people are blissfully oblivious that they are responsible for their own mortality. Because every individual's life is priceless, such incidents should be investigated by the government.
