Delhi colder than Nainital amid severe cold wave; rail and flight travel affected
The Safdarjung weather station in Delhi, the capital's official weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Nainital recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius, according to data.
The national capital's minimum temperature on Tuesday was lower than the hill city of Nainital in Uttarakhand due to an extreme cold wave that affected Delhi and its neighbouring states in north India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Safdarjung weather station in Delhi, the capital's official weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Nainital recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius, according to data.
Ayanagar, where the city trembled in bitter cold, recorded Delhi's lowest minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. The capital's lowest minimum temperature this winter was 5.3 degrees Celsius in Safdarjung on Thursday.
Images taken earlier this morning showed Delhi shrouded in a dense layer of fog that significantly decreased visibility, forcing drivers to put on their headlights to help the situation.
At 8.30 am, the visibility at Safdarjung and Palam airports was 50 metres.

Flights not intended to operate in such bad weather "may get impacted," Delhi Airport has already warned travellers. "Flights that are not CAT III A compliant may be impacted while landings and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport. For the most recent flight information, passengers are urged to get in touch with the relevant airline. The airport issued a statement on Twitter on Monday expressing its heartfelt apology for any hardship it may have caused.
In addition, train services that have been disrupted for the past few days continue to be so, with 15 trains bound for Delhi running late on Tuesday. New Delhi to Jhansi Taj Express and Delhi to Alipur Duar Mahananda Express were rescheduled earlier in the day, Northern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) said.
