Delhi's air quality improves but is still in the "Poor" Quality Index

On Wednesday, pollution levels in Delhi decreased, with the total Air Quality Index (AQI) now at 280. According to SAFAR-India, it falls under the 'poor' category.

The National Capital Region's (NCR) air pollution level ranged between "extremely poor" and "poor." On Wednesday morning, the AQI in Gurugram and Noida were 283 and 303, respectively, in the "poor" and "very poor" categories.

However, Tanushree Ganguly, programme lead of the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water, said while Delhi's air quality has remained in the upper echelon of the 'very poor' category for the past week, it improved marginally on Monday due to stronger surface winds in the afternoon hours, which are favourable for pollutant dispersion.

"These strong winds are expected to continue on Tuesday, bringing air quality closer to the 'poor' category. For the next two days, it is expected to improve to 'poor' or 'lower end of extremely poor,' according to SAFAR.

SAFAR predicted that air quality will decline starting Wednesday, stating that transport-level winds would likely slow down, resulting in a modest decrease of air quality, but that it would remain within the "lower end of very poor" category.
