Fresh Violence in Manipur: PWD Minister's House Attacked, Vandalised
PWD Minister's home was attacked amid recent violence in Manipur.
Vandals stormed into Konthoujam Govindas' residence in the Bishnupur district of Manipur on Wednesday, causing more unrest in the region.
Konthoujam is the present BJP representative for Bishnupur. Report claims that Govindas and his family were not present when a crowd attacked the residence in the Ningthoukhong neighborhood.The state is currently experiencing prolonged ethnic strife between the Meitei and Kuki populations, which started three weeks ago and has already claimed more than 70 lives. This is the first time a minister's home has been targeted.
In the interim, members of a different community killed a 29-year-old male. On Wednesday, two more individuals suffered injuries in a different event in the Bishnupur region. Due to these incidences, the curfew relaxation has been withdrawn in Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts. Earlier, the curfew was loosened to 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
