Illegal Check Gates Continues In Meghalaya: Paul Lyngdoh Asserts

Paul Lyngdoh, a senior UDP leader and cabinet minister, has stated that he opposes illegal check gates and collection.
Although he did not know the precise number of those illegal gates, he declared that they must be blocked.

The minister's statement came during a savage disagreement between the UDP and NPP about who gets to collect money from unauthorized toll gates on public roads.

In order to stop the illegal toll gates that are in operation in Meghalaya, the UDP has asked that the KHADC and the state government act swiftly. Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the CEM of KHADC, retaliated by claiming that UDP supporters were among those who had been arrested by the police in connection with an alleged illegal gathering at the council's forest check gate in Mawlai Mawiong.

However, the Congress last year questioned the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Committee, led by the United Democratic Party, regarding the existence of unauthorized check gates and patrolling posts that were purportedly managed by the council.
When the topic came up during Question Hour, Mylliem-based Congress MDC Ronnie V. Lyngdoh reported seeing one of these patrolling posts at Lad Mawreng in the East Khasi Hills district. According to him, it was put up without the Ministry of Roads, Transport, and Highways' consent.
