IMD: Maharashtra, Goa on “Red Alert”; Likely To Receive Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

South Konkan, Goa, and south central Maharashtra have received a “red alert,” while north central Maharashtra, east Vidarbha, and west Vidarbha have received a “orange alert” for the upcoming two days. In western Maharashtra, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over the next three days, according to the red alert for the districts of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur. For the Satara and Kolhapur districts, respectively, the red warning is in effect from July 6 through July 8 and from July 7 through July 9.

The Panchganga river level in Kolhapur was only seven feet away from the warning level as of Wednesday night when the alert was issued. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been stationed in the flood-prone Shirol tehsil and Kolhapur city out of the 17 teams that the NDRF has deployed in parts of Maharashtra that have reported heavy to extremely high rains. The district of Kolhapur, which was devastated by floods in 2019 and 2021, has implemented preventative measures to deal with any flooding situations that may arise.

“Extremely heavy rain will fall during this time in isolated ghat areas in the respective regions. Red alerts have been issued on July 7 and July 8 for Pune “IMD officials were quoted by PTI as saying.

According to the Met department, Telangana, a state in southern India, is also anticipated to experience heavy to extremely severe rainfall during the coming days.
