Having rammed a truck into obstacles close to the White House, the Missouri man, 19, was taken into custody according to authorities. Incriminating words made by the driver, Chesterfield resident Sai Varshith Kandula, led police to believe that he was trying to harm US Vice President Joe Biden. Sai Varshith Kandula has been charged with "threaten[ing] to kill, kidnap, inflict harm on a president, vice president, or family member" as a result of remarks he made to numerous law enforcement authorities.

When the truck crashed outside, Joe Biden was in the White House, according to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. The debt ceiling was the topic of their meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. According to Jean-Pierre, Joe Biden was unaware of the situation as it was happening and was relieved that nobody suffered harm yesterday night. He also expressed gratitude to the agent and law enforcement officer who responded promptly.

During the course of the inquiry, which also involved the FBI, US Capitol Police, and United States Park Police, the suspect was questioned by Secret Service agents. Sai Varshith Kandula was accused of trespassing, reckless driving, and assault with a deadly weapon.
