"It's like homecoming for me. Tura was my first place..." says DC of West Garo Hills, Meghalaya

IAS officer Jagadish Chelani from the Meghalaya Cadre's 2018 batch. Beginning on April 1st 2023, he took over as the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner. Chelani holds a B.Tech. and an M.Tech. in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, and he also has an MA in Politics (International Studies) from JNU, New Delhi. Chelani is a native of the MP city of Jabalpur.
The IAS officer stated in a Facebook post that being assigned to work as the deputy commissioner in West Garo Hills is like returning home for him. He asserted that Tura was his first appointment in Meghalaya. "I joined Tura as SDO (Sadar) and later went to join as SDO - Civil, Dadenggre."
"I was then posted to the Meghalaya Secretariat as the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Planning and Agriculture. I was thereafter appointed as DC for West Garo Hills".
"I have loved the district and the people of West Garo Hills. I hope to continue the good works and legacy left by DCs before me, and contribute with the knowledge I have, in improving administration and service delivery".
He continued by saying that his Facebook profile and page serve as a way to communicate with everyone and tell them about the activities taking place in the District.
He expressed his gratitude to the Garo Hills' residents by addressing them "Mitela" in Garo.
