Low pressure area intensifies into depression over Arabian Sea

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Friday that a low-pressure region over the southeast and the nearby southwest Arabian Sea formed into a depression and is predicted to strengthen into a cyclonic storm by October 22.

According to a statement issued by the Met department, the cyclonic storm is expected to strengthen even further into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday and proceed toward the south coasts of Oman and neighboring Yemen.

As demonstrated by cyclone Biparjoy, which formed in the Arabian Sea in June and initially moved in a north-northwest direction before changing course to make landfall between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan, the weather agency issued a warning that storms may occasionally deviate from the predicted track and intensity.

The low-pressure system was centered at 11:30 on Friday, according to the IMD, approximately 900 km east-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 1,170 km southeast of Salalah Airport (Oman), and 1,260 km east-southeast of Al Ghaidah (Yemen).
