Lunar Eclipse 2023: Date, Time And Other Details

We have two eclipses coming up this month on Earth. Part of the moon will be obscured in the night sky on October 14 following the annular solar eclipse. October 28, two weeks following the solar eclipse, is when the lunar eclipse will take place. Space.com reports that it will be visible over portions of North America, North and East South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic, and Antarctica. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth is exactly between the moon and the Sun, which happens during the full moon phases.

On October 29, the celestial event will start at 3.36 pm EDT (1.06 am IST) and terminate at 4.53 pm EDT (2.23 am IST). Following a penumbral lunar eclipse on May 5, this will be the second lunar eclipse of the year.  It is safe to observe the moon being shaded by the Earth with the naked eye, unlike solar eclipses.

Lunar eclipses happen during the full moon phase, according to NASA, the American space organization. Earth's shadow falls on the Moon's surface when it is exactly between the Moon and the Sun. This causes the Moon's surface to become duller and occasionally turn a brilliant crimson over a few hours. The space agency added that half of Earth may see each moon eclipse.
