The District Sports Office in Ampati, along with the District Administration of the South West Garo Hills, organized a tug-of-war competition for the district's female residents of all ages on Monday at the Students Field in Ampati to commemorate International Women's Day.
Out of 16 teams from around the district that engaged fervently in the competition, the women of Adugre village demonstrated their physical endurance with careful teamwork and won first place. The women of Hathisil village took home the trophy for runners-up.
The event's chief guest, South West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police V Kumar, praised the competitors for demonstrating the actual strength of women via such competitions. In the presence of S Marak, the district sports officer for Ampati, Kumar later gave out prizes to the event's winners and runners-up.
