Meghalaya: Ardent to begin indefinite hunger strike from today
We don't have anything against our Garo brothers and sisters. Their rights won't be in any way violated by us. Only our rights are being demanded," he stated.

Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, president of the VPP, is prepared to begin his indefinite hunger strike at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in an effort to increase pressure on the MDA 2.0 Government to heed his demand for a review of the Meghalaya State reservation Policy, 1972.
According to Basaiawmoit, he will stage his hunger strike in front of the Main Secretariat, as reported.
He was very emphatic in saying that he would keep going on a hunger strike unless the government agreed to rethink the reservation policy.
According to what he had said, the roster system's retroactive application would prevent Khasi youth from obtaining any further government positions for the following 50 years. As far as the quota policy is concerned, Basaiawmoit added that his party is not opposing any particular community.

The Garo Hills-based organizations, meanwhile, have warned against changing the reserve principle, claiming that their underdeveloped region has been neglected for more than 50 years since statehood.
