Meghalaya: Cops suspended over illegal possession of drugs
Constable Ajay Chettri of the Meghalaya Police was detained and suspended on Monday after more than 10 grammes of heroin were found in his possession. The Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) carried out an early morning raid and removed over 10.53 grammes of heroin from Chettri's possession, according to West Garo Hills SP Vivekanand Singh.
Khawbok Diengdoh (29), a drug dealer from Dongkamon Nongmensong who has also been detained, transported the contraband on a night bus.
Arup Nag (57), Suresh Burman (59), and Shankar Dalu (33), who work as a driver, a handyman, and the owner of a night bus, respectively, have all been held and will be questioned. Additionally taken were a SIM-equipped mobile phone, a night bus (ML08 E 6111), and an automobile (AS01 AB 6116).
Based on intelligence from the West Garo Hills Police, Diengdoh was apprehended in Shillong, and a small amount of heroin was found in his possession.
In a different incident, on Sunday night, the ANTF carried out an operation at Praharinagar and retrieved 48 SP capsules. In connection with the crime, the police also detained Sumon Majumdar, Gudhu Modak, and Constable Sheemanto Hajong. Six cell phones and one auto-rickshaw (ML08 H 2128) were seized.
On Sunday, however, a large narcotics operation was uncovered in Shillong, and five persons were detained for possessing heroin worth Rs. 3 crore, four vehicles, money, and cell phones.
