Meghalaya Elections: 16 arrested in Phulbari clash between TMC and NPP

In connection with the clash between TMC and NPP members on Tuesday in the Charbatapara hamlet, part of the Phulbari constituency in the West Garo Hills District, sixteen people have been detained.

According to police, additional arrests in this case are likely. The incident resulted in four injuries.

Every effort is being made, according to the Election Department, to ensure free and fair elections. According to Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor, election officials have identified at least 131 participants in the altercation who would be bound over in order to stop similar situations from happening again.

According to the CEO, 25 of the 131 suspects have already been bound over by the police.

On Wednesday, the NPP requested the West Garo Hills district administration to prevent the Phulbari incident from spiraling out of control.
