Non-tribals without trade licenses, labour will be barred from the EKH taxi body

Meghalaya: Non-tribals without trade & labour licenses to be barred from the EKH taxi body

In the wake of the assault on two taxi drivers in Police Bazar, the East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association met KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne on Monday and demanded that non-tribal taxi drivers apply for labour and trading licences in order to run their taxis in the city. The association's demands were discussed during a meeting with the KHADC CEM and the EM in charge of Enforcement.

The association's president, Wandonbok Jyrwa, stated that they have formally requested the KHADC to strictly enforce the requirement that only genuine individuals receive trading licenses.  Jyrwa states that non-tribal owners of taxis must have a legitimate trade license, and non-tribal drivers must have both a valid labor license and a trading license.
