Meghalaya seeks funding from the Centre to Host North East Olympic Games

In order to host the North East Olympic Games later this year, Meghalaya has requested funding from the Center. "The state government is handling the money independently. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Banteidor Lyngdoh recently addressed the national conference of ministers of Sports and Youth Affairs of the States and Union Territories, saying, "We need the Centre's support to organise this mega sports event.

Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, presided over the two-day conference, which got underway in Kevadia, Gujarat.

Lyngdoh further requested the Center to assist the state government in establishing a Khelo India centre of excellence in each district's administrative centre since Shillong is home to all significant sporting infrastructure. He was sure that the Khelo India centres in every district would aid in discovering talent even in the state's outlying regions.

"The budgeted amount of Rs. 5 crore for the establishment of the Khelo India centre of excellence is insufficient. According to the DPR created in Delhi, the funding that was approved "does not align with the nature of the work that needs to be undertaken," he claimed.

The minister emphasised the issues with the various sports disciplines' infrastructure. He called attention to the Center and emphasised the importance of renovating the different youth hostels throughout Meghalaya.

The North East Olympic Association (NEOA) had previously informed the MSOA in October 2021 that they would be happy to award Meghalaya the right to host the North East Olympic Games.
