Meghalaya: Several shops gutted in Nongpoh fire

In the early hours of Tuesday, a fire broke out close to the Meghalaya Apex Bank premises and the Nongpoh Town Shopping Complex, destroying seven stores.
Fruit and tea cafes are among the businesses that were destroyed.

Around two in the morning, when the fire started, the CRPF was sought for help. COY personnel and QAT E/67 (49 personnel) arrived quickly and were able to bring the situation under control. Additionally, they alerted the Nongpoh Police Station and the Fire & Emergency Services to the incident.
Until the report's filing, the cause of the fire was unknown.
The area was roped off and three firefighting crews from the E/67 Bn CRPF made an effort to put out the fire by using water from local wells. The fires could not be extinguished until Fire & Emergency Services came after some time had passed.

Due to the ongoing load-shedding, there was no electricity present at the time of the occurrence.
The quick actions of the COY staff stopped the fire from spreading and inflicting additional damage to surrounding businesses
