Meghalaya: Tension rises in Shillong after miscreants attack cab drivers in Police Bazar

Following an altercation in the Police Bazar area on Thursday night, two taxi drivers are accused of being assaulted by six miscreants. The incident caused tense scenes in Meghalaya's capital city.

The local taxi drivers were alarmed by the incident and called for swift retribution on Friday morning when they ceased operations. Additionally, the area's traffic flow was hampered by this.

The two drivers, whose identities have not yet been determined, have been admitted to the Civil Hospital and are currently receiving medical attention.
In the meantime, tension also persisted in the Punjabi Colony in Ewduh when representatives from a number of civil society organizations met there to call for the arrest of the guilty.

It is said that an organization of Khyndailad cab drivers gave the police a day's time to make an arrest of those responsible for the assault on the taxi driver.

If the perpetrators are not apprehended by the police within a day, the association threatened consequences. They assert that, in addition to taking other legal action if necessary, they will no longer permit non-local taxi drivers to operate at Khyndailad.
