Meghalaya: Tributary of Umium Lake Witnesses Massive Fish Dead

In the Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya, a huge number of dead fish were discovered in the Umtiekh Pyllun village's tributary to the Umiam lake. The fishes' deaths are thought to have been caused by poisoning.
The Umktieh Pyllun and Khasi Students' Union (KSU) unit has, in the meantime, denounced the "insensitive" behavior of a selected few people who are accused of poisoning the tributary. Fish of many different species died as a result of the poisoning.

Strictest action will be taken against the wrongdoers, both organizations have warned. In addition, fishing and water pollution of any form are now forbidden.
In addition to demanding quick action against those responsible, the Seng Samla Umktieh Pyllun and KSU Umktieh unit has requested for the protection of the local aquatic life.
