Meghalaya's DMHO issues a hygiene advisory due to an outbreak of eye flu

Over a hundred persons have been reported to be afflicted with eye flu in Meghalaya, the most of them are children. A virus that causes the illness spreads via contact with contaminated objects or liquids. Red, watery eyes, discomfort, and sensitivity to light are among the symptoms.

In his meeting with the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO) for the Ri Bhoi District, Dr. E. Kharnari agreed that eye flu had been spreading throughout the district. He advised the general public to maintain thorough hygiene even though this is not a cause for concern.

The general public has been encouraged to maintain good cleanliness as a defense against the eye flu. This entails performing thorough and regular hand washing, using clean tissues or wipes that may be discarded after wiping the surface of the eye, wearing goggles to prevent contacting the eyes, practicing good personal hygiene, and consulting an eye doctor for the proper diagnosis and guidance.

A recent survey indicates that several cases have been documented in Assam's Barpeta, Rongia, and Dhemaji districts, and many people have sought medical attention in these areas. Students were where the majority of the cases were found.
