TRENDING : A tribute to Bappi Lahiri: The Disco King of India.

It is the end of an era as India's beloved disco king, Bappi Lahiri passed away late Tuesday night, February 15, at a Mumbai hospital. Lahiri, who popularised disco music in Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s was born into a Bengali Brahmin family in Jalpaiguri, Bappi Lahiri had singer parents--Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri. They were Bengali musicians, trained in classical music and Shyama Sangeet. Bappi was known to have introduced and popularised synthesized disco music in India. He majorly worked in Hindi and Bengali cinema. His last Bollywood song was Bhankas for the Tiger Shroff-Shraddha Kapoor's Baaghi 3.
You would be lying if you said you haven’t danced like Mithunda in “I Am A Disco Dancer” his most iconic track of the decade, at some point in your life. Back in the ’90s when Chitrahaar and Rangoli on Doordarshan were the only source and were the ones that telecast songs that everybody loves to watch. While Disco Dancer released in the 80’s – it is still safe to say that it owned the decade even to this day and can be traced back to watching people go wild when the song is played. After Disco Dancer, in 1990: Thanedaar with the exquisite Madhuri Dixit Nene and the coolest Sanjay Dutt had the most electrifying dance number that one would completely fall head over heels for Tamma Tamma People still groove to Bappi Lahiri’s music to this day.
Bappi Lahiri was indeed the Disco King who not only gave foot-tapping music to India but also inspired Hollywood. He was among the few Indian composers who made it to international borders. Not many people might know that Bappi da's iconic song Jimmy Jimmy from Mithun Chakraborty's Disco Dancer (1982) found a place in the 2008 Hollywood film You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Towards the end of the Hollywood comedy, you will find a soundtrack that contains Jimmy Jimmy music. It was re-arranged by Julius Dobos.
