Athlete Parul Chaudhary wins gold in the women's 5000m at Asian Games 2023, earning her second medal
Parul Chaudhary of India completed a hat trick at the 19th Asian Games now taking place in Hangzhou when she followed up her silver medal in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a historic gold in the women's 5000m race final, leaving Japan's Ririka Hironaka in her wake. Hironaka was left speechless as she passed her quickly in the final few meters from her left because she knew she had saved that energy for that one last effort, finishing her race in 15:14.75. India currently has 64 medals overall in the 2017 Asian Games after winning its 14th gold.

The track and field athletes at the current Asian Games have put on a record-breaking performance, winning up to 22 medals so far, which is equal to the number won by the shooters. After Avinash Sable (men's 3000m steeplechase) and Tajinderpal Singh Toor (men's shotput), Parul's gold was India's third in athletics. Four gold medals were won by the track and field competitors on the same day, just a few minutes later by experienced javelin thrower Annu Rani.
