Petrol pump strike in Guwahati city today

The Greater Guwahati Unit of the North East India Petroleum Dealers' Association has declared a 24-hour fuel pump closure in the Greater Guwahati area from 5 a.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

If the oil firms do not accept the association's demand for rectification of the problem of arbitrary load cancellation and short supply of fuel by transporters, the association has threatened to go on strike indefinitely starting at 5 a.m. on May 16.

According to a news statement published by the group, retail dealers are hounded and short-changed by tank truck owners/transporters, but oil firms have remained mute bystanders to the retail dealers' losses.

The oil companies, according to the statement, are responsible for delivering the requested amount of fuel on time. However, according to the group, transporters regularly cancel retail dealers' planned loads without providing a sufficient cause, and oil corporations have failed to fulfill their responsibilities of reining in TT owners.

According to the press statement, if the oil corporations do not remedy the matter within three days, the union would be obliged to go on indefinite strike.
