PM Modi's "Make in India" auto initiative is praised by Putin: "You are doing the right thing."
Speaking at the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in the Russian port city of Vladivostok, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" policy and said that Modi was "doing just the right thing" by encouraging Indians to use products made in India and promoting the program.
In response to a question about autos created in Russia, Putin said that domestically produced vehicles should be used and that nations like India have already set precedents through their policies under Modi's leadership.
"You know, we didn't have domestically made cars then [in the 1990s], but we do now," Putin stated in response to a question from the audience. They do appear more subdued than the Mercedes or Audi vehicles we purchased in large quantities throughout the 1990s, but this is unimportant. We should, in my opinion, take notes from several of our allies, including India. Most of their attention is being paid to the creation and utilization of Indian-made automobiles and ships. And by promoting the usage of the Made In India brand, Prime Minister Modi is acting ethically in this regard. We should utilize the fact that we have access to those automobiles as well.
