In Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respect to and performed his final rites for his mother Heeraben Modi, who passed away early on Friday. After paying her respects at her Raysan home when he arrived in Gujarat this morning, PM Modi brought the coffin containing her mortal remains to the cremation for the funeral rites. According to a hospital statement, Heeraben Modi, 100, passed away this morning at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center in Ahmedabad about 3:30 am. After her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. Other family members and PM Modi's brother Somabhai Modi were also present at Heeraben Modi's home.

Heeraben Modi's passing has so far prompted a flood of condolences. Amit Shah, the Union Minister of Home, Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defense, and Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, were among those figures who sent their sympathies to PM Modi for his loss.
Gujarati politician Heeraben Modi was born on June 18, 1923, in Vadnagar, Mehsana. PM Modi is the third of six children; she also has a daughter and five sons. Pankaj Modi, the younger brother of the prime minister, and she shared a home in the Raysan village close to Gandhinagar.
