Poland becomes first NATO nation to send four fighter jets to Ukraine

Being the first member of NATO to contribute aircraft since Russia's invasion of Ukraine , Poland will send four Mig fighter airplanes from the Soviet era to the country.

These would be delivered in the next days, according to Polish President Andrzej Duda, and others would follow. Although a welcome addition to Ukraine's air defense, the additional jets are not anticipated to be a game-changer in the conflict.

Olena Kondratyuk, the deputy speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, wished additional nations will do the same.

The Soviet-era aircraft, which Ukrainian pilots are qualified to fly, may be sent by other Nato nations. Ukraine has previously requested F-16  fighters from Western nations.

Using planes that meet NATO standards, the UK is training Ukrainian pilots. But, it has cautioned that providing Western jets would only ever be a long-term option due to the extensive training requirements.
