Despite having modest symptoms, first lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, according to her spokesman.
Following his wife's positive test, President Joe Biden underwent a viral test; however, his results were negative. Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, said the president would continue to undergo routine testing and would be kept an eye out for any signs.
For the time being, Jill Biden will stay at the couple's house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, according to Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director. The first lady, who teaches English and writing at Northern Virginia Community College, was scheduled to begin the new academic year on Tuesday.

According to Alexander, she was coordinating with school administrators to find substitute teachers for her classes due to her health.
The first lady and her husband had been to Florida on Saturday to survey the hurricane Idalia damage. The Labor Day holiday weekend was then spent in part at the beach house in Delaware before President Biden left on Monday for a union gathering in Philadelphia before returning to the White House.
