Protesters burn hijabs, chop hair in protest to Mahsa Amini's death, detained by the morality police
On Saturday, September 17, protests broke out in western Iran during the funeral of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old who passed away after being held by morality police who were enforcing severe hijab restrictions.
Women removed their hijabs in protest of the death of the young woman in detention. In some films, the women can be heard chanting "death to the tyrant!" as security officers use tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
In a symbolic act of opposition to the severe Iranian rule requiring all women over the age of seven to wear religious headcoverings, other ladies also chopped off their hair and burned their hijabs.
Journalist and activist from Iran posted a video of some ladies burning their headscarves and severing their braids on Twitter. "Iranian women exhibit their outrage by cutting their hair and burning their hijabs to protest against the killing of #Mahsa Amini by hijab police,".
Many Iranians protested in the streets after the 22-year-old Iranian lady who was being imprisoned by morality police passed away. Even some people online express their disgust.
Iran's moral police imprisoned Mahsa Amini for allegedly breaking the nation's hijab laws. She was sick when she and the others were taken into jail, according to the police.
