Russian soldier arrested 'after six months in hiding' during Ukraine war

According to Ukrainian authorities, a Russian soldier who claimed to have evaded capture in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine for six months has been caught.
According to the regional police of Kharkiv, the 42-year-old serviceman was stopped by Ukrainian military personnel who were patrolling the Kupiansk neighborhood.
The area was retaken by Ukrainian forces last September.
Police were informed by the soldier that he has since been hiding in abandoned buildings.
Police located him on Monday and learned that the man, who was wearing civilian clothing, was a member of Russia's 27th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade and a local of the Moscow area.
A police statement stated that the soldier was brought to a nearby police station for additional investigation.
Since the war broke out last year, significant combat has taken place in Kupiansk, which is home to a crucial railway junction. Russia promptly took control of the town and occupied it for several months.
Despite the fact that Ukrainian forces returned to the territory in September, Russian attempts to reclaim it pose a threat.
