Section 144A CrPC Imposed in Three Districts of Nagaland ahaed of Assembly Elections 2023

The provisions of Section 144A of the CrPC are in force in three districts of Nagaland. In accordance with the authority given to the Commissioner of Police and District Magistrate Kevithuto Sophie by Section 144A of the Criminal Procedure Code, no one is allowed to own or carry any weapons in the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, or Niuland as of right now. This was done after the date for the state assembly elections was announced. The Dimapur Police also issued a ban order to ensure that there are no unfavorable circumstances while the elections are being held.

In another order, the district magistrate instructed all gun owners in the districts of Niuland, Chumoukedima, and Dimapur to deliver their weapons to the neighborhood police station by no later than February 10 if they have a license to do so.


A schedule for the assembly elections in the three northeastern states of Meghalaya, Tripura, and Nagaland was reportedly announced by the Election Commission on Wednesday. The state assembly elections in Nagaland are scheduled on February 27. The results will be made public on March 2nd.
