Inquiry underway after blaze at Police Bazar

Shillong: Disastrous Blaze at Police Bazar yet to extinguish; Report within 10 days

The enormous fire that destroyed the Janata Furniture Building at 1:15 pm on Saturday was still raging nearly two days later.
Strangely, the reason behind the fire—which has been raging for an unprecedented amount of time—remains unresolved as sources have confirmed that the LPG cylinder explosion happened after the fire broke out. The LPG cylinder explosion was thought to be the cause of the fire earlier.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah of East Khasi Hills established an administrative investigation into the fire event, to be led by Additional District Magistrate R Wahlang. Within ten days, Wahlang is expected to turn up his report.
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services are still on the ground, pumping water to put out the fire.
Inspector-General (Fire and Emergency Service), Francis Kharshiing, confirmed that the fire has been contained when contacted.

When the fire spread across the entire structure, destroying multiple stores and godowns, the tiny lanes made it challenging for fire tenders to arrive at the scene in time.
All vehicle traffic towards Police Bazar was thereafter halted, which had a domino effect throughout the entire city and brought everything to a grinding halt.
Up until late at night, residents endured unheard-of traffic jams, and in order to avoid any unforeseen incidents, power was turned off in numerous areas.
