A reactor erupted at a pharma manufacturing business in Akkireddygudem in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district late on Wednesday, presumably due to a gas leak, killing six persons and injuring at least 15 more.
According to a preliminary investigation, the gas escaped due to a suspected malfunction, resulting in the explosion, according to Deputy Police Superintendent B Srinivasulu.
When the explosion occurred at a plant of Porus Laboratories Private Limited, which makes pharmaceutical intermediaries and speciality chemicals, over 20 workers were on the job, he said.
In light of the gas leak, police, fire tenders, and the National Disaster Response Force raced to the area about midnight to rescue and evacuate individuals from surrounding communities. “Within a few of hours, the fire was put out and everything was back to normal,” Srinivasulu said.
