South Africa penalized 20% match fee for over-rate against India

For sustaining a sluggish over-rate against India in the second ODI at Boland Park in Paarl on Friday, South Africa was penalized 20% of their match fees.

South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the match. On Sunday, the series' third and final match will be contested at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

"After time allowances were taken into account, Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sentence after Temba Bavuma's team was ruled to be one over short of the target," the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

Players are penalized 20% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl in the permitted time, according to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Bavuma pleaded admitted guilt and accepted the suggested punishment. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Adrien Holdstock, third umpire Bongani Jele, and fourth umpire Allauhudien Palekar.
