Meghalaya: Successful Overnight Operation by Pillangkata OP Police Leads to Major Seizure of Ammunition and Wildlife Items

In a remarkable overnight operation conducted by the Pillangkata OP police, led by Inspector K. Islam, a substantial amount of ammunition and prohibited wildlife items were recovered on December 7, 2023. The operation, carried out with precision and efficiency, has resulted in the arrest of an individual hailing from Mizoram, who was residing in the 9th Mile Baridua area along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

The recovered items include the lower jaw with teeth of a wild boar, seven deer antlers (horns), one deer skull, 1052 AK-47 ammunition, seven Light Machine Gun (LMG) 7.62 ammunition, 14 Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) 5.56 ammunition, 30 .32 pistol ammunition, three empty cases, one tear smoke grenade, one hand grenade, one INSAS empty magazine, three AK-47 empty magazines, and 34 stamp seals from various government departments.

The arrested individual's connection to Mizoram and the discovery of wildlife items suggest a cross-border illegal operation, highlighting the need for enhanced vigilance in the region. The recovered ammunition, including AK-47s and LMGs, raises concerns about the potential involvement of the individual in larger criminal activities, possibly linked to organized crime or insurgency.
