The forces, according to a statement from Taiwan's defence ministry "found numerous groups of Communist ships and aircraft operating in the Taiwan Strait, some of which crossed the centre line. They were thought to be staging a real attack on Taiwan's largest island."
Potential simulated assault on HVA. In reaction to the crisis, the #ROCArmedForces have used alert broadcast, CAP aircraft, patrolling naval vessels, and land-based missile systems, the ministry tweeted.
Following Nancy Pelosi's recent trip to Taiwan, which infuriated Beijing, China has adopted an aggressive posture towards the neighbouring island. In retaliation, it imposed sanctions against Pelosi and her close family members as well as a trade embargo on Taiwan for a number of goods. Additionally, it halted discussions with Washington on a number of other topics, including defence and climate change.
